The East Greenwich Traders Association have suggested that Maze Hill station be renamed “East Greenwich station”. Others believe it would be more appropriate to call it 'Greenwich Park Station' – perhaps as part of the Olympic legacy for the Park. Many older residents of Westcombe Park will remember the original Greenwich Park station in Stockwell Street, which was demolished in 1967 to make way for the Ibis Hotel.
Since the closure of the old station, as the Wikipedia entry for Maze Hill station confirms (See http://bit.ly/aWTwGS ), Maze Hill is the closest railway station to Greenwich Park. Services to the original Greenwich Park station closed nearly a century ago, so there should be no confusion if Maze Hill were renamed. Such a change might help visitors get off at the right station when coming to Greenwich Park, the National Maritime Museum and the Observatory. It might also help erase the memory of the infamous ‘Battle of Maze Hill’ http://bit.ly/cY8Htn Perhaps it would also encourage the powers that be to restore a through service to Central London.

No, no, no, please no. Maze Hill is a great name, very evocative and distinctive. It ain't broke, don't fix it. I sympathise with the traders' desire to attract more people to East Greenwich, but I don't think the name should be changed simply to suit their needs.
Besides this, 'Greenwich Park Station' would have people getting off there thinking they had been getting off in the town centre, so it would in fact cause confusion.#
Why not try new signs at Maze Hill which say 'Maze Hill - for Greenwich Park' and see how that goes?
