29 WESTCOMBE PARK ROAD, LONDON, SE3 7RE ref 10/1262/TC

Remove an existing conifer (located on the south-western corner of the front garden - see photo in supporting docs) which is out of scale (taller than the three storey house) and out of character with the property and the road and replace it with two new trees - see garden designer's plan in supporting docs. We intend to plant an acer and an amalankia (3 - 4 metres in height) in order to achieve a better visual aspect and reduce the excessive shading from the oversized conifer. These works are part of a relandscaping of the front garden intended to create a more formal Victorian style of planting, in keeping with the recent complete renovation of this property. The proposed relandscaping will include new hornbeam hedging along the eastern boundary (to hide concrete and wooden fencing)

Lifting the Marathon Siege

Following further representations by the Westcombe Society, the Safer Neighbourhood panel and local councillors, the Council and officers from the Police’s Public Order Operational Command Unit took action on the day itself and the Gibb Memorial junction was opened at 10.45 am to allow vehicles across the junction - but only as far as the Prince Charles / Shooters Hill Road roundabout, where the only exit was towards Blackheath Hill.

Opening the junction 2 hours earlier than the previous year was a very welcome return to the traditional arrangements. The Westcombe Society intends to suggest further improvements, including restoring The Gibb Memorial junction to the published list of crossing points, full information about road closures to be published in Westcombe News and Greenwich Times, and opening the whole of Prince Charles Road as soon as it is safe to do so after the rear command vehicle has passed, to allow access to Blackheath Village and the A102.
